Hi, I’m Jason. I’m from Miami, Florida, and now live in the Atlanta area with my wife and three sons. I have a bachelor’s in communication and master’s in professional writing. I’ve worked in various roles in public relations, media relations, marketing, writing, and editing. However, none of this qualifies me to be a “financial expert.” But guess what? You don’t need advanced math skills or a finance or accounting degree to successfully manage your money. You only need common sense, logic, and the determination to succeed.
Many times my wife would ask, “Why are you writing a book?” I have several answers for this question:
- To tell our personal story of crushing nearly $75,000 in debt;
- To have documentation of our journey to leave to our kids in an effort to teach them financial freedom and independence—so they don’t make the same mistake we did;
- And, perhaps most importantly, I’ve become weary of reading headlines like My Husband And I Thought Education Was A Way Out Of Poverty. Now We’re $718,000 In Debt. I desperately wanted to do something to help the younger generation either pay off or avoid debt completely. We have to change our mentality from, “Debt is just a part of life.”
